Thankful Thursday #67

This week I’m thankful for…

  • the little girl sitting one row ahead of me on the plane and singing “Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star”.  You made my day, little one.  Twinkle on.
  • sleeping in my own bed
  • reading in bed
  • the 90-year-old woman celebrating her birthday at the Kings v. Clippers game.  They showed her on the big screen and I was simultaneously filled with joy and pangs of grief for my grandmother.
  • carefully trying to pour ladybugs into habitats only to have them creep out in a mass invasion.  You should’ve heard the squeals and giggles coming from my little ones as ladybugs crawled all over my arms, legs and hair.  We eventually got them settled into their habitats on our desks, but we’re still finding rogue ladybugs around the room.
  • dragonfly season in my classroom
  • local theater
  • Easter morning

Thankful Thursday #56

This week I’m thankful for…

  • the sound of my husband’s snores paired with the sound of rain on the roof
  • my parent volunteers who do thousands of little tasks so that I can focus on teaching my little ones
  • Sunday in my pajamas
  • quiet afternoons to write
  • leftovers
  • the fleeting moment when all the laundry is folded and put away and the laundry baskets are empty
  • OUTSIDE RECESS!!!
  • a collaboration day with my colleagues including lunch at my house and a walk around the neighborhood.  I do my best thinking when I’m moving.
  • my very patient step-dad who is teaching me so much
  • a break in the rain to walk in the Arboretum by the river.  I brought my camera along and snapped this shot.  I love when the light casts a blue spell spilling from the sky down over the mountains and into the water

Thankful Thursday #46

This week I’m thankful for…

  • the awesome birthday present I received, especially surprising being that my birthday is in July
  • the pumpkin one of my little ones sewed for me in his sewing class
  • the Cake Pops that same little one brought me.  Come to think of it, I received the Cake Pops and the birthday present on the same day.  Did someone switch my birthday without telling me?
  • the fresh smell of clean sheets as I slip into bed
  • steel-cut oatmeal
  • pedicures
  • driving with the top with the seat warmer on.  Hello, Fall!
  • waking to the sound of wind chimes
  • Terry, who took care of me while I was sick all weekend.  That guy did the laundry, changed the sheets, did the dishes, rented me a movie, rubbed my back and asked hundreds of times if I needed anything.  It’s so lovely to be taken care of.
  • Designer Bruce Mau’s Incomplete Manifesto for Growth.  So much of it applies to my writerly life.  Shoot, so much of it applies to my regular life, too.
  • Another year of NaNoWriMo madness!

Thankful Thursday #21

This week I’m thankful for…

  • my grade level partners who always have my back
  • parents of current and former students who intrinsically seem to know when I need to hear that I’m doing a good job
  • our school librarian for saying I’m the perfect teacher for my most challenging student
  • my husband for encouraging me to always listen to my heart when it comes to doing what is best for children
  • my sixth grade student TA who looked at our dragonfly nymphs and said “Isn’t it amazing that something so ugly turns into something so beautiful?”  Exactly.
  • pedicures
  • dates with my mom
  • The Sound of Music, which always makes me tear up at least a little, especially at the lyric “I go to the hills when my heart is lonely.”
  • reading solely for the pleasure of it
  • lazy Saturdays when I read nap and Terry watches baseball naps, too
  • warm rain that compels Terry to usher me outside to smell it
  • the small window each week wherein all the laundry is washed and put away and the laundry hamper is empty
  • walking home from church under a sky of thunderheads that held off the rain long enough for me to make it home
  • the little boy who brought his skateboard in as his “Mostest special thing, ever, in the world.  Ever.”
  • my darling former student who brought her bunny by after school so I could “finally meet him”.  Henry the Bunny is now my favorite bunny.  Although chocolate bunnies are a close second.
