Thankful Thursday #60

This week I’m thankful for…

  • the rare pleasure of an empty inbox
  • time with my little ones
  • the opportunity to help a friend in need
  • the sorrow and fragility of Taps at a funeral
  • mornings in bed with the hubby
  • the band Future of Forestry. I chewed on this line from their song Slow Your Breath Down all week. “I will sing you songs of innocence til the light of morning comes, til the rays of golden honey cover you in the sweetness of the Throne.” How beautiful is that?  You deserve a little beauty in your day so here’s Slow Your Breath Down.

Thankful Thursday #57

This has been a hard week to be thankful.  Work problems feel daunting right now and I’m having a hard time not being discouraged.  In times like this, this seemingly little habit of keeping track of things to be grateful for has become a saving grace.  Rumbling around in my head is 1 Thessalonians 5:18 “In everything give thanks.”  It’s a posture that’s hard for me to take, but maybe that’s when I need it most.

This week I’m thankful for…

  • going on an engagement shoot with my stepdad-I learned so much about light!
  • lazy Saturday mornings in bed with the hubby
  • my stepbrother who is at the beginning of  a big adventure building schools in Ecuador
  • clear, wintery nights in the hot tub
  • reading in bed
  • the little one who wrote a poem for the pocket chart work station called “School Rocks!”
  • “The Burning Bush” by Jericho Brown.  It compels me to continue standing up for what is best for children.

Now, I have a voice. Entered, I am lit.
Remember me for this sprouting fire,
For the lash of flaming tongues that lick
But do not swallow my leaves, my flimsy
Branches. No ash behind, I burn to bloom.
I am not consumed. I am not consumed.

Thankful Thursday #55

This week I’m thankful for…

  • bike rides with friends
  • my warm house
  • the cozy feeling of being tucked under heavy piles of blankets
  • my little ones and their parents who are fully embracing our 100 Acts of Kindness challenge
  • the day when the rain let up just in time for both recesses
  • time to practice with my new camera
  • the fact that my camera didn’t break when I accidentally dropped it from my handlebars.  Really, it’s good to get that first scratch out of the way, right?
  • the sound of my hubby’s voice
  • lots of opportunities to laugh with my little ones
  • parent volunteers
  • my little one who stayed home sick and spent the day writing comic books to share with the class
  • the opportunity to take care of a friend in need
  • dinner with friends

Thankful Thursday #54

This week I’m thankful for…

  • forgiveness
  • time with my little ones
  • good food and good company
  • not having to wait until Daylight Savings to check my smoke alarm batteries
  • my husband who stood on the ladder fanning the smoke alarm until it stopped beeping while I tried in vain to salvage brinner
  • the dad who thanked me for making art lessons a part of regular instruction and giving his son an outlet for his artistic side
  • crisp winter mornings perfect for walking to work
  • photography lessons with my stepdad.  Just look at how he used my camera strap to hide my extra chins.  The man’s a genius..
